As a web intelligence company, we know the importance of cybersecurity all too well. And, thanks to our Risk department, our company's data and employees are safe from threats. To learn more about what it's like to work in cybersecurity at Oxylabs, we had a chat with Inesa Dagytė, our Head of Information Security.
In short, we do everything to keep our company and employees' data safe and improve our security posture. This includes implementing security measures, monitoring suspicious activity, taking immediate measures against any threats, and complying with the highest standards of information security.
Cybersecurity is an ever-changing field, so we have to keep learning, adapting, and improving.
What's also very important to us is fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness within our company. To do this, we collaborate with other teams and educate our colleagues on how to keep their own and the company's data safe.
We use quite a few tools: security monitoring systems, such as SIEM; endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools; vulnerability scanning and management tools; and incident response solutions. With all these tools, we’re improving our security posture every day.
Cybersecurity is an ever-changing field, so we have to keep learning, adapting, and improving. But I think that for any specialist, challenges are an opportunity to become better. And in our team, we embrace those challenges.
This quarter, we're focused on complying with the new review of ISO27001. And, I have to say, this is a pretty interesting task for us. Kind of like preparing your car for a periodic technical inspection — if you focus on the right controls, you can enhance your security and compliance posture significantly.
The industry as a whole is experiencing a talent shortage in technical security. So, it’s a challenge to me as a manager to find people who want to enter the security sphere, as well as provide these people with an environment to build the necessary technical skills.
Trying to tackle this, we’ve just signed a contract with Vilnius University. We’ll be encouraging students to enter the cybersecurity industry with paid internships.
When it comes to challenges within the company, in cybersecurity, the human factor remains the most vulnerable. The thing is, to prepare your colleagues against cyber threats, you need strong training resources. And the traditional ones often fail to be engaging and effective.
That's why we, as a team, are always trying to make security training more interactive. To do that, we're adding more gamification elements to our training materials.
When leading a team, my keywords are involvement and empowerment.
Our goal is to develop training that is seen as an opportunity to learn something, not as a punishment. That's why we're keeping a dialogue between our team and other teams, so we can all learn from each other.
First, I develop a clear strategic plan for the year so I can effectively map out Objectives and Key Results for each quarter. Then, I secure the resources our team needs to achieve them.
When leading a team, my keywords are involvement and empowerment. I show my teammates that I trust them as professionals, and we always have open discussions on the best way to reach our goals. This way, my team is motivated to take ownership of their work.
First things first, we have open conversations about where they want to be in their career. Then, we develop an actionable plan to achieve this.
And if my teammates don't know which path to take in cybersecurity, I, as a manager, help them come up with ideas through discussions.
For me, it's really important to tune in and listen — what is it that people want to achieve and what skills they want to gain. And then, my job is to give them the resources and guidance to get them there.
These are really interesting roles with loads of opportunities to learn and grow. And, Oxylabs is a place where you will get the resources and support you need to become your best professional self.
So, if you're a cybersecurity specialist, don't think twice — apply!
